Carpenter Apprentice

Candidate Attributes

This position requires people who:

  • Are detail oriented
  • Are safety conscious
  • Have a good work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Have 1-4 years construction experience (preferably in formwork)
  • Are able to take direction as well as work without supervision
  • Are physically healthy and mentally fit
  • Possess a positive attitude
  • Can lift 50 – 75 lbs

Experience

We’re looking for people who have:

  • Experience with a variety of forming systems, including Peri, Aluma, Doka, Camlock, Titan and Gang forms
  • Experience with erecting and dismantling formwork for suspended slabs, columns, beams, cores, footings, walls, raft slabs and stairs
  • Proven ability to work at heights and to properly use fall protection equipment
  • Proficiency handling and installing carpentry materials
  • Experience using power tools and pneumatic tools
    background with driving and signalling tower cranes, mobile cranes and rough-terrain forklifts
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and directions
  • Experience with erecting and dismantling scaffold systems

Work Conditions

This position is physically demanding and involves exposure to all elements of outdoor work. Hours of work for this position are based on a minimum of 44 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be available to work overtime as well as alternating Saturdays (half days) as required. This position requires a keen attention to detail and a commitment to working safely at our job sites.

Rigger

Candidate Qualifications

This position requires people who:

  • Have 2 – 5 years rigging experience with tower cranes and/or mobile cranes
  • Are familiar with working on large-scale construction sites
  • Have a class 5 driver’s license
  • Are certified for fall protection (preferred)

It is an asset to be registered as an apprentice tower crane operator; however, this is not mandatory.

Responsibilities and Duties

Successful candidates will:

  • Inspect rigging equipment daily
  • Comply with and operate under site safe work procedures for lifting, lowering or moving equipment
  • Communicate and work with site foremen and superintendents to take directions on daily tasks
  • Be familiar with the lifting capacities of the tower crane and ensure no load is lifted where the weight is unknown
  • Communicate with the operator via two-way radio and/or hand signals during lifting and lowering procedures
  • Signal or direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials
  • Occasionally operate the tower crane
  • Use a concrete bucket to place and pour concrete
  • Communicate with other tradespeople and coordinate lifts with them
  • Be dedicated to the project team and prioritize time-oriented project goals
